CARSONS IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

John and Mary Carson nee Wells and 5 children arrived in Australia from Ireland on October 1st, 1840, aboard the Mary Dugdale. Ann Jane Carson, 16, was listed separately as she was considered an adult. John was a wheelwright and farm labourer. In Australia they were farmers and lived in Adelaide, Wiltunga and Gawler.

The original chart of the Carson Family was kindly contributed by 1.1.6.3.1 Lois Dunchue, with later additions from SA Genealogical Society database et al, including "150 Years of Settlement by the McPharlin Family in South Australia and Western Australia." I have given married names for girls checked against a list provided by Ron Hoskin on the Carsons, which appears in Bob Munro's McEvoy Family book. Merrilyn Hunter has discovered that William John McMillan was married first to Matilda McPharlin who died in 1879 and then to her cousin, Mary Jane Carson (details below.) Eliza Jane McPharlin married George McMillan.

James Inkerman Carson was born 8th October, 1879 Alberton South Australia 436/228 parents John Carson and Matilda Mckay. His birth was registered in Port Adelaide South Australia. He married Hannah Davis on the 26 Jan 1907 place Residence of William Davis, Victor Harbour South Australia, registration place Encounter Bay South Australia, 393/230 Australian Birth Index 1788-1922, and Australian Marriage Index 1788-1950. He died 1947 registration 18853/1947 Mildura, Victoria Australia . Death Certificate. Can be found in Nichols Point Cemetery, Mildura Victoria Australia. I can find 7 children for James still confirming

Australian Birth Index 1788-1922, Australian marriage Index 1788-1950. Victorian Australian Death Index and BDM Vic 1836-1988 marriage place for Alma is St George Church They spelt it Albarton on Index, registration place Port Adelaide South Australia. Married on the 18 Sep 1905.

William David Carson was born on the 9 Aug, 1873 Adelaide South Australia. Matilda McPharlin the daughter of John McPharlin and Matilda Carson married William John Peterswald McMillan on 12.4.1876 Gawler SA. He was known as John. ( 205/107 and Australian Marriage Index 1788-1950.) Matilda McMillan born McPharlin died in 1879.

John McMillan married again, to Mary Jane Carson, the daughter of Robert Johnson Carson SNR and Teresa Tranter 3.3.1881 in Auburn SA (907/126 and Australian Marriage index 1788-1950.) William John Peterswald Mcmillan marriages were registered with the name John McMillan on both marriages. His parents were William McMillan and Anne Rae Wilson.
