Born 31-1-1850 at Dry Creek died 26-1-1935 aged 85 years, married Ellen Jane Case (father Emanuel Case) born 23-2-1864 at Gawler Hills, died 18-7-1934 aged 70 years, on 6-1-1884 at St Raphael Church, Carrieton. Dennis farmed at Bute (listed in the 1903 PO directory in the alphabetical directory as a farmer, Bute), Balaklava and they lived at Queenstown, both buried in West Tce Cemetery with Dennis's mother, Anne Jane Plunkett.

Herbert says in his autobiography which you can read here that his father took up land at Bute together with his brothers Robert, Dan and Frank.
1.4.3 Olive Cecelia McEvoy born 12-1-1888 died 7-7-1969 aged 81 years, married Ernest Arthur Phillis born 22-1-1890, died 21-12-1965, on 15-5-1912 at the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Bute,both buried West Tce Cemetery next to Olive's parents, last abode Daws Park.
MARRIAGE. The Church of the Holy Rosary, Bute, was the scene of an interesting wedding on Wednesday, May 15, when Miss Olive McEvoy, eldest daughter of Mr. McEvoy, Bute, was married to Mr. Ernest Phillis eldest son of Mr. Arthur Phillis, Wallaroo. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Phelan, of Snowtown. The Church was tastefully decorated for the occasion by the girl friends of the bride. A pretty arch, with a large wedding bell was erected above the altar rails. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked pretty in a dainty gown of white ivory silk, trimmed with lace, pin tucks and buttons. The long court train which hung from the shoulders, was adorned with ruffled trimming. A beautiful bridal veil and orange blossom completed the toilette, and she carried a pretty bouquet of Marguerites and fern. Two charmingly robed bridesmaids were in attendance; Miss Madeline McEvoy (sister of the bride), and Miss Nellie Phillis (sister of the bridegroom), both of whom wore cream voile frocks, with silk trimming and Saxe blue hats. They carried bouquets of white chrysanthemums and fern tied with blue streamers, and wore the bridegroom's gifts of pretty gold brooches. The bridegroom was supported by Mr. J. Doyle as best man, and Mr. R. McEvoy as groomsman. As the bride entered and left the church the 'Wedding March' was played by Mrs. McCormack. After the ceremony the bridal party motored to the residence of the bride's parents, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast was partaken of and the usual toasts were honored. The presents were both numerous and costly. The bride's travelling costume was a navy serge coat and skirt, worn with a grey hat trimmed with emerald green. Mr. and Mrs. Phillis then left for the south, where the honeymoon was spent.

McEVOY-PFEIFFER. The engagement is announced of Madeline Ruby McEvoy, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McEvoy, of Bute, to Carl Edwin Pfeiffer, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pfeiffer, of Mannum.

Raphael, No. 4332, served with the Australian Imperial Forces in France in WW1 as a signaller in C Company, 8th Infantry Brigade, 32nd Infantry Battalion. He enlisted on 3/4/1916 aged 23 years and 4 months and embarked on 7/11/1916, returning to Australia on 6/5/1919, disembarked 14/6/1919. One adopted son,

The mice have been a terrible plague this year, l am sending 6d. and my little brother and sisler, Vincent and Kathleen, leen, 8d. each.I'm sending a penny for a sixth annual report of 'Minda.' Bute. Dear Cousin Rosaleen, I suppose you are thinking that I am very careless l for not writing to you before this. I was indeed very sorry to hear that your correspondents were not writing to you. But I suppose they will all start again soon. Since I last wrote to you we have had a very successful mission, which was conducted by Rev. Father O'Farrell, O.P., from North Adelaide. The services were well attended by all the Catholic community, and it was a great treat to listen to the able and eloquent sermons, that we very rarely hear in these far-off districts.
After the mission was over, we were all very sorry. The Wednesday after the mission was a great day. We were all confirmed by the Right Rev. Dr. Norton, Bishop of Port Augusta. I remain, your affectionate Cousin,

Bishop Norton. Next Thursdav we break up from school; then we will have a week's holiday. Well, dear Cousin, I hope you and the dear little orphans are quite well, and I also wish them a happy and enjoyable Easter. We have a pretty cockatoo. He is very cunning. We have him on a chain, and he is always biting it, trying to get loose. I am sending 4d. for the little orphans in stamps.

Bute. Dear Cousin Rosaleen,—It is a long time since I last wrote to you; I suppose you have almost forgotten me. We are having some very warm weather lately, which will soon ripen the wheat, and it will be ready to reap before long. The men are busy hay making at present. Snakes seem very plentiful this year; my brothers killed two this morning, and they have seen a good many among the hay. Well, dear Cousin Rosaleen, I am sending back the card you sent me. I have collected 2/6 for the orphans. I hope the children had a good time.
